Thanks for coming out to Triangle Garba last week. I know people had midterms coming up, but still a lot of people showed up and danced their hearts out. We have a lot of exciting things coming up…like AWAAZ 2010: Hari & Kumar go to Sitar!

1. AWAAZ 2010
Diya is excited to announce that Awaaz is almost here! Join us for the largest student-run production on campus. The theme this year is “Hari & Kumar go to Sitar,” and with all of the amazing acts we have lined up this year, you won’t want to miss it! And yes, there will be dinner before the show!

Look for tickets being sold on the plaza starting October 25th.
Suggested donations per ticket for the show:

Non-Duke community members: $7

100% of all proceeds will go toward the Pakistani floods relief efforts of our official Awaaz 2010 charity, the American Refugee Committee.

3. Odissi Dance Concert
Duke University Dance Program presents a solo Odissi dance concert by visiting artist-in-residence, Smt. Sujata Mohapatra, a distinguished Odissi dancer and a disciple of “Padmavibhushana” Guru Kelucharana Mohapatra.

1.Sri Lanka’s foreign minister casts doubt on newly released photos that are said to
show a massacre of Tamils during the country’s civil war.
2.Police in Indian-administered Kashmir arrest a prominent separatist leader who
they say has been responsible for the recent protests against Indian rule in the

Cultural Tidbit

Dussera-
Saturday was the Hindu holiday of Dussera. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the Hindu autumn lunar month of Ashvwayuja. This holiday marks the beginning of the harvest season. The Mother Goddess is invoked to reactivate the vigor and fertility of the soil . Happy Dussera everyone!
